
First time PS3 outsells Nintendo in Japan

For the first time PS3 video-game console outsold the Wii of Nintendo in Japan. This data has been revealed by market researcher Enterbrain Inc. It says that for the first time it had happened on a monthly basis in Japan in the month of September. This was the result of the earlier price cut.

According to the data from August 31 to September 27 there were 309,939 PS3s sold. This was a monthly record for the console in Japan. Enterbrain Inc., the Tokyo-based research firm said that Nintendo’s DS Lite and DSi handheld players sold a combined 297,060 units.
Sony had cut the price in Japan of PlayStation 3 on September 3 by 25%. After discount the price stands to 29,980 yen i.e. $335. Sony also introduced a model that of one- third size of the original and it consumes 34% less power.
A same type of price cut in the U.S. market helped the Tokyo-based company sell over one million units globally in just 3 weeks and it brought it closer to its annual sales target of thirteen million.
