Nintendo makes loss in 6 fiscal months, first in 7 years
October 29th, 2010
Nintendo posted a loss for the first time in seven years. The loss is of six fiscal months that ended September 30, 2010. The main reason for the loss is the decline in DS handheld sales.
The DS sales, including the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL, fell from 11.7 million to 6.69 million globally as compared to the same period last year.
The sales steep decline makes sense as the market is close to saturation and also the 3DS of Nintendo is also launching soon next year. So, gamers are waiting to bid their time for the new 3D handheld.
The Nintendo Wii sales also dropped in the said period to 4.97 million units from 5.75 million units.
The fall in sales of console also resulted in the fall of software sales.
More to this, the Yen has become stronger against the USD in last two years and this has left Nintendo’s net income to drop down up to 34 percent.
