Region lock in Nintendo; It really works
Sunday, September 27th, 2009
The Nintendo DSi-capable cartridges are region locked. This was announced by the company almost a year before.
The Nintendo DS cartridges that features DSi-enhanced camera functionality released in the US market works well on a system in US and it boots very fine but the same when brought to a Japanese system, the icons of the game does not appears in the menu. Thus it prevents from playing on that system.
Well, this lock-out is not applicable to playing on standard DS or DS Lite systems because they don’t have the same specific territory firmware as of the DSi units.
Remember this properly that this DSi lock-out is not only limited to the DSi Shop and DSiWare downloads.
Nintendo announced last year about it and then it mentioned that the reason behind doping this is because of the cartridge lock-out is due to the specific internet connectivity of the system and also the incorporated parental controls.

The data of NPD Group reveals that Sony sold 210,000 PlayStation 3s in the United States last month. There was a $100 drop that took an effect at some of the retailers as early as August 18th. It likely translated to a price conscious boost in sales.

An interview clip of Nintendo President
Tuesday, June 9th, 2009
Let us check what the President of Nintendo, Saturo Iwata, has to say. In an interview to CNBC, he admitted that the company had scrapped a new handheld which they had not just been working on, but also had even completed it.

Now it appears, according to Iwata, that this handheld was going in a different direction than the DSLite and DSi. He said, “when we are launching new hardware, the most important thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…”
Now it seems that as if they went with the DSi as it kept with the DS and thus would maintain the popularity of the system. The sale of DSi is of course impressive. One cannot help but only wonder as to what this other handheld was though. Let us take the flashback. Way back, DS first launched Nintendo claimed that they weren’t abandoning the GBA platform. The DS was simply another way to game. It seems now that this handheld fell more in line with the GBA or something, may be.

Nintendo rules three spots this month
Monday, May 25th, 2009
A more one month rolls by with good news for Nintendo. It tops the console sales charts again this time. It is not a surprising fact. But yes, this month Nintendo rules three spots instead of the usual two.
Apart from Nintendo Wii and DS Lite, which has taken the spots first and second on the list, the Nintendo DSi (recently launched) makes it the trifecta on the sales chart.
This marks the 1st month in short memory that the Nintendo Wii was not a number one, as the Nintendo DSi outsold all with a staggering 827,000 units. It outpaced the Wii at 340,000 and the DS Lite at 215,000.
It also means that the DS platform sold over a million units for the month. It made up 31% of all hardware sales in April. It is not at all hard to believe when the DSi sold 435,000 in the first week.

The release of DSi boosted nintendo DS sales
Sunday, May 17th, 2009
Released in the month of April, Nintendo DSi is on the way to increase the sales of the Nintendo made handheld by over 175 per cent year over year that is quite the performance. This statement is said by Mike Hickey, an industry analyst. He is currently working for Janco Partners.

The main reason is the increased price of the DSi. Hence, it brings in more revenue than the previous one, DS Lite. But yes, the sales volumes of DSi is also said to be higher.
The new handheld should also increase the hardware sales for the month of April by 25 per cent where as the software revenue should be declining by 20 per cent in the same period of 2008. This is just because no other game on the magnitude of Grand Theft Auto IV or Mario Kart Wii has been released in 2009. Some other analysts also say that the decline in the NPD Group numbers for the April month could be as much as 17 per cent.

Over 20% Japanese people owns DS
Thursday, May 14th, 2009
We all know better that Japanese gamers love Nintendo DS. But… did we ever imagined that the total number of DS units sold in there is equivalent to 20.5% of Japan’s population? This has been reported by a website.
The chart of this report was released by Nintendo recently and it shows that the percentage of a market’s population that owns a DS. The chart also explains succinctly just how bonkers the population of Japan has been for the handheld. Over 20 per cent of the population owning a DS? That’s really Crazy. It means that 1 out of 5 Japanese people. Make sure, it is not 1in 5 Japanese gamers. It is 1 in 5 Japanese people.

The fact is that 20 per cent of the population probably do not own a Nintendo DS. There, Japanese gamers have probably purchased multiple DS systems like the original DS Phat, DS Lite, DSi, and of course, the different colors and variants of the DS Lite.

Sunday, May 10th, 2009
At the time Nintendo DS initially came to the market, it was said that Nintendo may continue to support the Game Boy Advance. Yes, it of course did, but it was also clear that the company was trying to steer gamers toward the new hotness. The launch of the DSi, it is assumed to be a similar transition period would take place.

As much as the Nintendo would love for gamers to buy a brand new DSi, it is to be guessed that they are happy if gamers get a DS Lite too. So, they have launched a new lime green DS Lite bundle. This brightly colored new version gaming device is packaged with a copy of Personal Trainer Cooking.
This game is not exactly the same thing as Cooking Mama. It is more of like a real cookbook with also real cooking advice and such. Also, in the bundle is included a fashionable protective case.
