Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Nintendo recently had filed a patent for its portable force feedback. The company also adding to the rumours that Nintendo is working on DS successor.
Last month the company made an amendment to a patent that was made in August 2005.

The amendment read: “A game apparatus includes an LCD and a touch panel placed on a top surface of the LCD. The player instructs an enemy character displayed on the LCD with the use of a stick to attack the enemy character. For example, in a case that the enemy character exists at a depth of a game screen, little damage is applied to the enemy character, and a weak vibration is applied to the game apparatus. Conversely, in a case that the enemy character exists at a front of the game screen, much damage is applied to the character, and a strong vibration is applied to the game apparatus. In either case, the vibrations are transmitted to the fingers or hands of the player via the stick.”
Earlier, in 2005, Nintendo added a “Rumble Pak” expansion to its original DS. This supported about forty games, but this is not compatible with the DSi.
The DS was launched originally in March 2005 in the UK. It then went on to become world’s best-selling portable console.

Sunday, January 31st, 2010
If you are an aficionado of Nintendo DS gaming consoles then you might want to become an inmate at a Scottish detention center. This is because that the government of Scotland has proposed that the prisoners should be provided with Nintendo DS Consoles to barin-train them.

The consoles will be provided in all the prison libraries. This recommendation came after a study into how the cons should or can be educated.
According to the said research, Nintendo DS gaming consoles had helped young children who were having difficulty at the primary schools, therefore they should be used to augment the reading and counting ability.
The report cited the example of the US, where the prisoners were allowed to use PlayStations.
The proposal, however, was opposed by Matthew Elliot of the Taxpayers’ Alliance. Matthew Elliot said it would be a waste of taxpayers’ money to buy gaming consoles for the crooks. He said: “It is a completely ridiculous idea. Most taxpayers can’t afford Nintendos for their own children. So why should prisoners get them?”
The report also reluctantly talked about the provision of Internet Access to the prisoners. It noted that access to email and online pornography are due concerns
“A key factor in reducing reoffending is improving employability. To get a job you must focus on literacy and numeracy, which DS consoles do. People who improve these skills are less likely to return to jail.” Opines a representative of the Scottish Prison Service

The big screen of DS Lite
Friday, January 1st, 2010
From the time of Nintendo DS Lite the idea came for a living room optimized Nintendo DS if we remember properly. In those days the Nintendo was developed to a DS Lite revision that had larger screens. It was never released, but was ready for the production of big screen Nintendo DS Lite. It had screens of 3.8 inch.

This 3.8 inch screen is larger than what we have the standard 3 inch screens on DS Lite. Well, it is on the other hand is smaller than the DSi XL’s 4.2 inch screens.
The Nintendo DS Lite will be flying away from stores and the big screen DS Lite of Nintendo never entered into production. But it is sure that the unreleased piece of hardware for the DS Lite became the base for Nintendo DSi XL.
Yes, much ahead of announcing this new one as the Nintendo DSi LL in the Japan market and as DSI XL in the North America market, the company tossed around other names. Shigeru Miyamoto liked the name Nintendo DSi Deka. This name is Nintendo DSi Large in English.
However, other members of the team suggested to name it as DSi Comfort, DSi Executive, DSi Premium, and DSi Living.
Even Nintendo thought of using the name of DSi XL globally before settling on the name as DSi LL for the Japan market.
