Nintendo sales chart takes a southward slope by 40%
Thursday, July 30th, 2009
The previous quarter of financial statements was released by Nintendo recently and it revealed that the demand for the Wii and DS platforms may be slowing down henceforth in the face of the current recession. The net sale of Nintendo have fallen by 40 percent if we compare it to the sales in the same period last year.

According to data the drop in net sales of Nintendo has created a 66 percent fall in quarterly operating profit. To this report Nintendo says that it is mostly due to slowing demand for the Nintendo Wii and also due to the strengthening position of the Yen.
It is not surprising at all that both the Wii and also the DS have been selling like the hottest of hotcakes for sometime and now it may finally be reaching a saturation point. Also do not forget to take the economic situation into account.

Nintendo DS leads the industry while other suffers
Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Nintendo DS has led the video game system sales of America in the month of May. It has sold 633,500 units. This is in fact a hike of 40% compared to the same month in 2008. The sales were split 369,000 and 244,000 of DSi and DS Lite respectively.

The sales of Wii console of Nintendo were down by 57% over May 2008 to 289,500 units. But, the sales of course pushed the console past the 20 million mark in the US after only 31 months on the market.
On the other hand the Xbox 360 suffered the least of the home consoles. It had only a 6% drop in sales over last year. It is a fact that this console is suffering and it shows just how much the US video game industry is suffering.
The total industry sales has dropped below $1 billion for the first time since August 2007.
The NPD Group’s analyst Anita Frazier says, “The video games industry continues to struggle with difficult comparisons to last year, and this is the first month that industry sales have dipped below $1 billion since August 2007. May is typically one of the lowest revenue-generating months in any given year for the industry in general.”

Nintendo rules three spots this month
Monday, May 25th, 2009
A more one month rolls by with good news for Nintendo. It tops the console sales charts again this time. It is not a surprising fact. But yes, this month Nintendo rules three spots instead of the usual two.
Apart from Nintendo Wii and DS Lite, which has taken the spots first and second on the list, the Nintendo DSi (recently launched) makes it the trifecta on the sales chart.
This marks the 1st month in short memory that the Nintendo Wii was not a number one, as the Nintendo DSi outsold all with a staggering 827,000 units. It outpaced the Wii at 340,000 and the DS Lite at 215,000.
It also means that the DS platform sold over a million units for the month. It made up 31% of all hardware sales in April. It is not at all hard to believe when the DSi sold 435,000 in the first week.

Nintendo sales up
Friday, May 22nd, 2009
In Japan the selling record was not so good for Nintendo because the PlayStation 3 solidly outsold the Nintendo Wii and also the PlayStation Portable overtook the Nintendo DS. But yes, the current situation for the Nintendo has been reversed. The Wii and DS is now becoming the best selling products in their categories.

The Nintendo DSi has been sold about 55,000 units in Japan from 27 April to 10 May and it was even the best selling videogame console.
There the PlayStation Portable was the 2nd with a sale unit of more than 43,000 units moved to gamers in the same period. The lead of Nintendo is even bigger because the Nintendo DS Lite has also moved some 7,821 units in the same period.
Sad story for the Wii and the PlayStation 3. They are no longer head to head. The Nintendo home console is up 24,397 units and the PlayStation 3 is only at 18,483. Xbox 360 has suffered the shame.
