Games slaes down, hardware sales up says survey report

Seems to be a tough time for the . A slaes slump is plaguing the industry these days.

According to data, in July the video games sales and consoles were off 1% and this has happened in the fourth month in a row. The sales in United States dropped.

The sales of 3 from and that of of increased, but the sales of ’s games fell reveals market research firm Group Inc.

Analyst with Webush Securities Michael Pachter said, “ is responsible for all of the annual decline… owners are buying fewer games per capita than people who own the other two consoles.”

The group also reports that the hardware sales are up. Ther has been a 12% jump in the sales of console in the month of July where as the sales of game fell 8%.

’s game analyst said, “It’s the first time since September 2007, when launched Halo 3, that the 360 was the top-selling hardware platform.”

DS the best sold gaming console

It seems that is still interested in handhelds and in Sports Resort. The chart shows that the is the best sold gaming console. Through the chart it also seems that the made game still leads the software charts with a very good margin.

46,855 units of was sold in one week and its only rival, the Portable from , took the second place with sales figure of 32,849 units. The Lite is at 7,500 units in one week.

In the home gaming console the sold close to 25,000 units and it was on the top. It is more than the and the managed to sell together.

The big news is from the software charts in which Sports Resort sold more 155,000 copies in the second week of its shelf life. The overall sale of it is more than half a million units.

Nintendo DS leads the industry while other suffers

has led the system sales of in the month of May. It has sold 633,500 units. This is in fact a hike of 40% compared to the same month in 2008. The sales were split 369,000 and 244,000 of and Lite respectively.

The sales of console of were down by 57% over May 2008 to 289,500 units. But, the sales of course pushed the console past the 20 million mark in the after only 31 months on the market.

On the other hand the suffered the least of the home consoles. It had only a 6% drop in sales over last year. It is a fact that this console is suffering and it shows just how much the industry is suffering.

The total industry sales has dropped below $1 billion for the first time since August 2007.

The Group’s analyst says, “The video games industry continues to struggle with difficult comparisons to last year, and this is the first month that industry sales have dipped below $1 billion since August 2007. May is typically one of the lowest revenue-generating months in any given year for the industry in general.”
